Emphasis on Custom Router Configurations
The MikroTik hAP ac router runs a Linux-based operating system called RouterOS. It features complex graphic interface but also allows easy access to a command-line interface. Thus, it enables complete customization of configurable options and properties.
The downside of the advanced GUI and the full-fledged OS is that you need to spend some time learning the OS and all the available options of this router. You can stick to the default settings but then you will not get the most out of MikroTik hAP ac. You can find comprehensive setup and configuration manuals here.
Unlike most consumer routers, the MikroTik’s device provides support for OSPF, BGP, MPLS/VPLS and a centralized access point controller.
Five 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports, SFP port, USB type A slot as well as voltage and PCB temperature sensors is a nice surprise. The price of less than $130 for all these hardware features of MikroTik hAP ac router is a bargain.
It also offers best in class configurability but at the price of steeper learning curve if you are new to networking. In any event, you get professional VoIP equipment at the price of an advanced consumer router.
